The holidays were extremely busy for me. I almost forgot what it was like to have a day off. Kanoe and I have gotten back into surfing. We've been waking up early to hit the waves. I'm not a morning person at all. There are few things I will wake up early for and surfing is one of them.
Another thing I try to wake up early for is church. Most of the time I attend the latest service possible, however, this morning I attended the 9:00. Church was awesome. A great, needed message on suffering was presented and how it's inevitable in life to suffer. However, it's up to us how we handle our suffering and what we choose to suffer for. Are you gonna suffer for something good, or something bad?
After church, I hiked Diamond Head with my aunty, uncle, and two cousins. God has blessed me with such a great family. We're all very close. My aunty and uncle have been married for 20 years and have such a healthy relationship. Sometimes it's hard to believe in marriage and love with all the failed marriages and dysfunction around us. People like them remind me that healthy, lifelong love really does exist the way God intends.
After Diamond Head, we went to KC Drive Inn for Ono Ono Shakes, W&M for burgers and we ate at Kapiolani Park. I came home and took one of the best naps ever. I forgot where I was and what day it was. Although I was a little disoriented, I felt completely rested. My favorite HBO show, "Sex and the City" was on. I know it's not a very Christian show at times, but the story lines and acting are really great. The show is on its last season, so I'm not gonna miss an episode. I had a Lean Cuisine for dinner with a salad, played some 40s music, lit candles, and read my bible.
I'm so thankful for such a rejuvenating day. A very good friend of mine gave me a very caring, well thought out gift for Christmas. She made CD's of some of her favorite, mellow songs. One's full of slow jams and the other includes 40s, big band, and jazz standards. She gave candles, bath salts, a bottle of red wine and a wine glass. As her goal this year is to love on herself more often, she offered the same to her friends as a gift. It is vital to take care of yourself in such a way that goes beyond survival. The bible tells us not to worry about what we eat, what we will wear, or tomorrow since it has enough worries of its own. All we have is today. Tomorrow is never guaranteed and life can change not in a minute, but in a second. Take care of yourself!! There's no better way to express your faith and lack of worry than to take time away from the computer, away from the phone, or anything else that may fog your mind and just enjoy the present. For some of us, those moments don't come along very often, but when they do, I encourage you to grasp them with both hands and savor them.
Posted by maila at January 11, 2004 10:03 PMSo you back out in the water again. That's great. Now is it town or country that you are paddling out in?
Posted by: Jeff at January 11, 2004 11:53 PMWow. That reminds me that I should start playing basketball again. Two years of inactivity is probably not a good thing for us 30-somethings. ... does anyone else here drive in from the west side into town in the mornings? Talk about suffering! I just moved to the west side and the traffic coming in was grrrrr ... I have a better plan for tomorrow.

Thanks for the message about this past Sunday, New Hope is an awesome place to be. Especially when God embraces and touches our hearts when we are there in his presence.
I came to your site to see if I could purchase your new CD. I heard More on the Fish and it was very moving. Did you sing this song on Easter Sunday service? Does the reasource bookstore carry your CD?
You inspired me to get back into surfing again, I forgot what Dawn Patrol was like. It is so refreshing, and those afternoon naps after Rainbows. What a day! I used to surf for a living so I know how good you felt.
Here is a qoute the I really liked about life.
