Luv, Luv

Kanoe and me at the Second Chance Prom-a fundraiser for Hearts in Motion and IHS. Kanoe was auctioned off as a dream date for $500! Wow!!

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. That's how you know I've been swamped! Life has been very kind to me lately though. Let's see, the Second Chance Prom was great. It was at the Sheraton Waikiki and Ben and I performed along with Kanoe. It was great to see couples all dressed up. If I didn't have to sing at it, I would've gladly attended!

The day before that, I did a Music With a Message assembly at Niu Valley Middle School. That was a lot of fun. I'm very passionate about anti-smoking, especially among children and teens. National recording artist, One Voice, performed as well. They're cute Filipino girls from the Bay Area. I really hope to see Asians emerge soon on a national scale, especially ones from Hawaii. Maybe the "She Bangs" guy from American Idol and Camille will pave the way!

Friday morning I was on KHON at 5:30am. Whoa...that was an early one. Sorry for not letting you all know. I had my dates mixed up and by the time I realized when I was actually scheduled, it was too late to update my blog. I'm surprised that so many people saw it. I just can't believe people are actually up that early! Anyway, it was a lot of fun. Kirk Matthews, Tannya Boyd, and Trini Kaopuiki were very hospitable to me.

I've been re-decorating my bedroom. I'm embarrassed to say, but I've never really decorated my room since I've lived where I live. I never really knew how long I'd be here, so I never decorated. Well, 4 years later, I'd say it's time!! I watched Oprah one day and it was all about decorating. I felt a little convicted afterwards because all the ugly rooms they showed looked like mine! Yuck! They talked about how important it is to take care of your sanctuary. The way a person cares for their domain says a lot about them. My problem was that I never saw myself worthy enough to decorate. I'd rather spend money on clothes, shoes, bags...things people can see rather than what they can't see. Sounds a little shallow huh? The point is, it's just as important to care for the things only you can see. Now that I've done it, I feel so good. I painted my room pink. That's the first time I've ever painted and let me tell you, painting is such therapy! I'm totally in the groove, so that's why I haven't updated my site. I've even been making my own decorations and searching thrift stores and garage sales. It doesn't have to cost a lot. That was another one of my problems. I always thought it was too expensive to decorate and not worth it. Anyway, if you're like me and have never put time and energy into your haven, just do it!! You'll be amazed what it does for your soul. You're worth it!!

Hi Maila!,

How are you? Thank you for sharing your wonderful voice. I had the joy of hearing you and Ben sing two Friday’s ago at Gordon Biersch while I was visiting Honolulu (2/22). At the time I was pondering many choices in my life and your music truly reminded me of what God is calling me to do. As an artist myself, I’ve often felt God calling me to use my gifts for the ministry. I’m happy to say that my commitment to do so has never been stronger thanks to the passion in your voice.

I called Gordon Biersch to find out who you and Ben where because I wanted to see if you both had an album I could purchase. When I discovered your website I was blessed to know that you sang with several Christian artists and that your music reflects your beliefs. I think that’s awesome and now see how God used your gifts to help encourage me to use mine. Unfortunately, I’m not sure if your album is available for sale on the mainland. If it isn’t, somehow I would like to purchase a few CDs for myself and friends.

It’s wonderful how God ties people together. A little about me, I’m working with several Disney artists to start a new animation studio and I’m also trying to get started a design studio that focuses on developing intellectual property (e.g., Veggie Tales) ideas that are Christian based. Who knows, maybe we’ll collaborate creatively one day. We’ll definitely be looking for at some point great singing voices to add to our films/concepts…

Just wanted to share the encouragement. You’re awesome. Keep it up because God is definitely using your gifts! Thanks again. I may actually be back on the Islands this summer (I paint landscapes) so hopefully I will get a chance to hear you and Ben sing live one more time.
