Congratulations Maila!
This morning it was announced that she was nominated for an incredible FOUR Na Hoku HanoHano Awards!!!
Categories include:
Song of the Year (a composers award) for "More"
Female Vocalist of the Year
Most Promising Artist
Contemporary Album of the Year
I always knew from the moment I listened to the rough cut of More that this album would go places because it's so badass!
Let's all pray that Maila sweeps all of the awards this year! I'm hoping these nominations will get her airplay and respect from the local Hawaiian Music stations. And don't forget to check out Maila at one of her numerous gigs (click on shows at the top) and congratulate her! Again Congratulations Maila!
Posted by scott at April 20, 2004 7:33 AMThank you for posting this, Scott. I'm totally shocked! I honestly wasn't expecting any nominations at all. Although I don't make music to win awards, this is still a huge honor and very encouraging to keep doing what I'm doing. I take it as a love note from the Lord. I'm so thankful for all the support I've gotten through this website. We're going to the Hoku's!
Posted by: maila at April 20, 2004 9:18 AMSo I take it that the term "badass" is latin for "wonderful work of God" ? LOL
But yeah Maila, congrats on your nominations !! But don't you think it's about time you formed a full band ? Man, your music would really rock with an aggressive electric guitar *hint hint hint* :)
Congrats again. Your CD is a fantastic accomplishment and your ministry touched this particular heart.

I vote for a remix of "Say What You Want"... complete with hip hop scratching and a rap interlude. Yep... it should be done. Someone make this happen. :)
Posted by: janitor at April 20, 2004 9:59 AMHi Maila,
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I read about your nominations in this morning's newspaper...it made me think about a long time ago when a certain EX-boss/agent of yours
threatened that you'd "never work in this town" again after you moved on to puruse your solo career.
BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!!
Guess that person was wrong.
Hope you win 'em all!!
love,
sunway

Posted by: Nelson at April 21, 2004 12:15 AMHmmm. A hip hop version of Say what you want with a rp interlude. That would be kinda awesome. Hey Maila, do you need a rapper?
Posted by: Styles at April 26, 2004 5:37 PMOk, so we have Styles who will rap, and me that will play electric guitar....we're almost there. We can name the band Maila Gibson and the Posters LOL

Maila, Congratulations!!!!! YOU GO GIRL!!
I wanted to share my favorite verse with you, in hopes that it will encourage you on this awesome journey that you are on.
Psalm 16:8 I keep the Eternal at all times before me, with Him so close, I can not fail!
Remember to let HIM lead, and He will take you to places that you could never have even imagined!
We're cheering for you!
In Him, Kea.
