Hey folks!
"More" been out for about a month now, and its time to start drumming up interest for the release in the general public. I know all of you here are friends, family and fans, so I'm going to turn to you all for help!
Want to join the Maila Gibson Street Team? Read on if you do!
The Maila Gibson Street Team
First off, I want to stress to you that there is nothing you need to do to join the MGST... all you need is the desire to promote some great music and a fantastic artist!
The idea for a Street Team has been used by many artists and has proven quite successful, so I thought we would try it here.
The Street Teams first assignment is to promote Maila's single: "Say What You Want" to Hawaii radio stations! Start by calling the request lines of the radio stations below. Call once an hour if you can to request the song between the hours of 8am - 4pm. I realize all of us have busy schedules and we appreciate any help you can give.
KSSK 92.3 FM - 296-9292
KDNN 98.5 FM "Island Rhythm" - 296-9850
KCCN 100.3 FM "FM 100" - 296-5226
if you can think of other stations that might play Maila's music, let us know!
In the near future we will have some downloadable banners and flyers to promote the "More" CD and Maila's Concert appearances. She will be making the rounds to promote the album meet friends and fans and sign CD's.
We realize that we would be nothing without you, our friends, family and fans and we hope to make more!
Maila and Ben will be performing at Windward Mall tonight (Friday) starting at 6pm! If you're in the area, stop by and watch, say hi and get an autographed CD!
"Say What You Want" made it to #1 on KPOA (93.5 Maui) for 3 days in a row!! I turned on the radio tonight and found that out. I'm so excited! Their website is www.kpoa.com if you'd like to check it out (or even vote!). Also, I'll be heading into town EARLY Friday morning for the KITV 4 morning news show. After that, I'll be interviewing with Pipi, Billy V. and Lina Girl on KCCN FM 100. The FISH interview went really well. Dave and Kim are great. Don't forget to call the radio stations and put in your requests. Thanks for all the support!
Hey!! I'm so excited. Getting music on the radio, especially my music, isn't an easy task. However, as I was flipping stations this evening, I came across KPOA, a Maui radio station and "Say What You Want" debuted on their top 6@6 countdown at number 6! Someone told me it was playing over there which I was very happy about as well, but making on the countdown...WOW! I can't believe it.
Apparently the countdown is decided by online requests. I know it's a Maui station, but if you'd like to vote, their website is: www.kpoa.com.
I'm really hoping KCCN, KINE, and other Oahu stations will also play my music. Thank you so much to those of you who are calling and making requests for my music. Ben and I are setting up meetings and interviews with the radio stations. We feel that songs like "Say What You Want" and "The Fall" are especially radio friendly. We're hopeful, but we also know it's a tough business. However, God is my steersman and I trust that he'll take my music where it needs to go and I will continue to promote, promote, promote. Thank you Jane, Abigail, Stephen and many others for having my back and believing in me. Let's also give Scott a hand for such a cool website and all the updates he writes!
By the way, I didn't make it to Gordon Biersch tonight. A lot of people have gotten sick since my party and I'm one of them. It's such a bummer, especially in this time of my life where I'm trying so hard to promote, but also work. Poor Ben, he's doing the gig anyway. But hey, I'm thankful for a night of rest so I can get better and get on the road again.
Maila will be performing on KITV's (channel 4 or Oceanic channel 6) Morning Show on Friday, October 24th. The show starts at 5am and ends at 8am! Have your morning coffee and cheerios with Maila!
Thank you sooo much to everyone who attended my release party. I didn't graduate from high school in Hawaii so although it seemed like I was hot and miserable under all those leis, I enjoyed every last one and every minute of wearing them. I'm still overwhelmed with how many people came out to support my music and me. It hasn't quite sunken in yet how special the evening turned out to be. THANK YOU!
Update:John Yamasato, Jordan Segundo, and of course, Ben Vegas have joined the list of great performers at the "More" CD release party this Sunday @ Gordon Biersch, 5:00-9:00pm. Hope you can make it!!

John Berger reviewed "More" on Oct. 3. Read it here.
Last Friday I recorded "The Prayer" with Ho'okena. They arranged it so beautifully-in Hawaiian and English. I'm very honored to have been chosen for the project. I still can't believe it! I was a little under the weather the day we recorded it, but God's grace is so good. Watch for the new Ho'okena album due out in November.
